(NOTE:  This article was written and published before President Obama took a “selfie” at the Nelson Mandela memorial and celebration this week.  My point in publishing this link is to address the issue of whether schools should teach social media skills.  My personal opinion is that it borders on educational malpractice not to teach those skills.  But, as you can see, my position is far from universal.  – Mike T.)

Taking selfies at funerals. Tagging pictures of teens drinking alcohol at parties. Kids (and adults for that matter) post a lot of silly stuff online — and although most of it is chatter, some of what might seem harmless leads to tragic consequences. But is it the job of schools to teach kids the dos and don’ts of social media?
